Well, first, let's get clear on one thing about stress before I answer that...
Everyone experiences stress more often than they realize!
You see, we usually view stress as a bad thing, but truth is, not all stress is bad or caused by bad events or circumstances.
A
wedding
for instance is a joyous event... the union of two people in love that
is celebrated by friends and family. Yet we all
know how stressful the event can be for
those participating.
Why,
even
the guests experience certain levels of stress... what to wear, what to
give the happy couple, how to get to
the wedding.
A vacation, even if carefully designed to provide maximum relaxation, can be very stressful.
And don't think the lucky dude who takes seven days off to just stay home and sleep all week is getting off 'Scott free' from stress. Even that can create unexpected stress in the body.
In short, anything that causes a change in the way you interact with your world or the way you perceive it, whether it's a good change or a bad one, causes stress.
Stress challenges us at times, it tips us off that something is afoot or about to change. And for many people, in particular, creative souls, stress is the kick in the butt that jump starts our creative juices... pumps us up and propels us forward.
Oh, and you thought it was the Muses!
At
any rate, the problem with stress comes when it becomes chronic or
sustained, no matter what
the cause.
It's a holistic stress management coaching program that's meant to help block the destructive side effects people experience, in creative ways.
I
work with
stressed out souls to help them reclaim the balance in their lives
where stress can
actually be healthy and even, dare I say it, fun.
In particular, I address the kind of stress very creative people may actually be inviting into their lives.
Well,
stress
causes certain changes in your body chemistry; adrenaline builds,
cortisol gets our heart pumping faster. Our
senses are heightened, and
for a little while at least we feel on top of our game.
So, we welcome the stress into our lives sometimes to make us sharper and more alive.
But
our
bodies are designed so these changes
should correct themselves once the stressor (the reason for the
stress) is
removed. But if the stress is sustained and the stress
reaction in our bodies is prolonged, over time, this can cause
serious
damage.
My
goal is
to help creative souls find creative ways of dealing with the stresses
in their lives.
I
want you to succeed, not just merely survive. And I
understand how important that feeling of being on the edge of creation
can be, not just for writers or artists of
musicians, but anyone who finds themsevles having to show up
at peak
performance
everyday.
And we'll work together to make it fun and healthy and productive.
We'll
explore together what your stress triggers are and what your style for
handling them is. Then we'll look at your lifestyle,
work schedule,
relationships, and other factors that may or may not be serving you
well when it comes to stress.
We'll look at how you may be using stress and inviting it into your life, and whether or not it's the right kind of stimulus and what alternatives you might find work better.
We'll
explore together techniques for managing your stress symptoms... some
you may have already tried, but I can help you
see them in new
ways.
